Dental Extractions
WHEN REMOVING A TOOTH IS PREFERABLE TO PRESERVING IT!
A GUIDE TO ADVANCED EXTRACTION SERVICES
Extractions are largely considered to be “last resort” procedures. However, should we be unable to preserve a tooth that has sustained deep decay, severe injury, or other trauma, Dr. Mehwish Rashid of Smiles4Life Dental has the onsite capabilities to handle even the most complex dental extractions from her office in Visalia, California.
WHEN EXTRACTIONS ARE WHAT THE DENTIST ORDERS
The extraction or removal of a tooth is generally avoided because there is no tooth structure that is superior in form and function than those healthy teeth that developed with you. There may be some instances, though, where a badly broken, decayed, diseased, or injured tooth can threaten the health of the rest of your mouth and body. Furthermore, even with advanced techniques such as root canal therapy, Dr. Rashid may be unable to “save” teeth with deep inflammation or infection of the innermost tooth tissue (the pulp).
Notably, by the time the third molars grow in (during one’s late teens or early adulthood), there may be insufficient space for them to develop correctly. These teeth may become impacted or trapped in the jaw. As they try to break through the gums, wisdom teeth can produce intense pressure and pain – the type of pain that keeps patients up at night. In this case, removing the affected teeth is required to ease pain by getting to its source and preventing damage to other teeth and parts of the mouth and jaws.
